David Maclean
David leads a life of service and adventure that combines creativity and excellence in educational environments. Working in both corporate and creative fields has given him an appreciation for the art of leadership, and the promotion of original thought.
Through a passion to provide transformative education that is truly accessible and impactful to students and educators, and relevant to recruiters alike, David supports individuals and organisations in their continuous learning and entrepreneurial endeavours. In addition to his strategic leadership roles in learning organisations, he contributes proactively to the reduction of inequality and lack of opportunity in the following ways:
- as a Mentor for the Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurship,
- Mentor for the MTN Solution Space Venture Incubation Program,
- Mentor for TSiBA business school,
- and Trustee of the Rim of Africa Trust.
He also contributes as adjunct faculty to UCT’s Graduate School of Business and is a member of the Department of Higher Education and Training’s Community of Practice for Entrepreneurial Universities.
David has led international higher education institutions from start-up to recalibration, with extensive experience in conducting business across continents and regulatory environments. He is experienced in teaching and learning, internationalisation of higher education, and leading cross-functional teams that incubate new business ideas, diversify revenue streams, and advance new models of education that go beyond traditional boundaries.
